Blood Tests & Comprehensive Analysis
Understanding What Your Numbers Really Mean
Are you puzzled by the numbers on your blood test results? You're not alone. Understanding what these numbers mean is crucial to take control of your own and your family's health and wellbeing. At Pomona Holistic Health, we specialise in helping you decode the mystery behind your blood test results, empowering you with the knowledge to better understand how to improve your health, feel better, look better and prevent disease.
Holistic Blood Test Analysis
Unlike conventional medical approaches that primarily look for disease markers, our holistic blood test analysis focuses on optimal function and early intervention. We examine results through a functional lens, identifying patterns that support optimal wellness rather than simply flagging abnormal values.
From cholesterol levels to blood cell counts through to vitamin D and iron, each number provides valuable insights into your wellbeing. By decoding these results, you can gain a deeper understanding of your overall health, identify potential concerns, and make informed decisions to improve your lifestyle.
Our Blood Test Services
Comprehensive Blood Test Review
We specialise in reviewing blood tests from other practitioners, taking a holistic health-focused approach rather than simply looking for disease markers. We examine results through a functional lens, identifying patterns that support optimal wellness.
Regular Monitoring & Trend Analysis
We encourage our clinic clients to have regular blood tests because there's as much valuable information in tracking changes and trends over time as there is in a single result. This longitudinal approach helps us manage long-term health proactively and reduce the risk of modern chronic diseases.
Blood Test Referrals
Don't have a GP or prefer alternative testing options? Sarah can provide you with referrals for comprehensive blood tests. Please note that there is no Medicare rebate on private blood test referrals.
Common Blood Tests We Analyse
Full Blood Count (FBC)
A comprehensive test evaluating different components of your blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Essential for diagnosing conditions such as anaemia, infection, and nutrient deficiencies including iron, B12, folate and vitamin B6.
Comprehensive Cardiovascular Assessment
Assessing cholesterol levels including LDL, HDL, and triglycerides, providing essential information about your cardiovascular health, liver health and inflammation in your body. We can also conduct comprehensive cardiovascular profiling that goes beyond standard lipids to include Apolipoproteins A & B, Lipoprotein (a), Fibrinogen, hsCRP, and LIPOSCREEN LDL subfractions for advanced cardiovascular risk assessment.
Blood Glucose Testing
Measuring blood sugar levels to assess diabetes risk and metabolic health. We look for early trends that may indicate metabolic dysfunction years before disease develops.
Iron Studies Analysis
Comprehensive iron testing including ferritin, iron saturation, and total iron binding capacity. Iron deficiency (distinct from anaemia) is a common cause of fatigue, hair loss, food cravings, and sleep problems in women. Men are more likely to experience effects of elevated iron, and all men should have their iron levels tested at least once before their mid-30s to assess for iron storage conditions like haemochromatosis—a silent but progressive problem.
Liver Function Assessment
Despite the name, these tests indicate if something is actively damaging your liver rather than how well it's functioning. We analyse GGT, ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, and albumin.
Kidney Function Evaluation
Measuring parameters such as creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) to assess kidney health.
Thyroid Function Testing
Evaluating TSH, T4, T3, reverse T3, and thyroid autoantibodies to assess metabolism, energy levels, and overall thyroid health. Comprehensive thyroid testing can reveal autoimmune conditions and conversion issues often missed by standard testing.
Nutrient Status Testing
Including vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron studies, essential fatty acid ratios, zinc, and copper levels. These nutrients impact energy, immunity, brain function, skin health, and overall wellbeing. Imbalances can affect everything from mood and cognition to wound healing and immune response.
Inflammatory Markers
Such as C-reactive protein and homocysteine, which provide insights into underlying inflammation and cardiovascular risk.
Understanding Reference Ranges vs Optimal Levels
When reviewing your blood test results, it's important to understand that the reference range of "normal" for most results is based on average results from the general population. Your result may not have been flagged as too high or too low but it may still not be optimal for ideal health.
Our approach goes beyond simply knowing the values; we help you understand the implications of these numbers on your overall health and provide guidance on achieving optimal levels.
